Stopping by the kitchen on a snowy evening: Honey-garlic sprouts and figgy pork tenderloin

Lucky for us, the new issue of Taste of Home magazine with its centerpiece on sheet pan suppers arrived before the snow (none of this carry on through rain, snow, sleet foolishness for our carriers). The frozen stuff started before daylight and continued all day, but we had a tiny pork tenderloin in the freezer… Continue reading Stopping by the kitchen on a snowy evening: Honey-garlic sprouts and figgy pork tenderloin

A fine day for running off the rails; roasted asparagus with a college education

This would be the day for going stark-raving, nutso, bat-crap, screaming like a banshee, inhaling everything in sight, edible and non-. The air is like damp, gray wool. I’m reading William Styron, the master of depressive darkness. It’s Daughter’s Day and one daughter won’t answer the phone, the other had her daughter answer rudely. I’m afraid… Continue reading A fine day for running off the rails; roasted asparagus with a college education

We are each other’s memories, home-court habits

“We are each other’s memories,” said my beautiful, silver-haired friend yesterday morning at book club, and with that remark, she grounded me in my world in a way I’ve never before felt. Warm up with spicy sweet potatoes

Do you read People magazine online as I do (guilty pleasure #ohwhoknows)? Yesterday, Jennifer Lopez “revealed” her “conflicts about her body.” She’s gorgeous, 40 and stinkin’ rich and she has conflicts? She can’t decide whether or not she has to look “her best” every time she leaves the house. Fortunately, the “best” bar is a… Continue reading Warm up with spicy sweet potatoes

New year, new me, blah, blah, Brussels sprouts

Time to get re-revved. I’ve rejoined the YMCA after 6 years away. I can walk on the treadmill, do weight circuits, take water aerobics, spin and zumba classes, swim laps. If only it weren’t so much easier to lie in the recliner, read novels (ooh, like Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior) and eat leftover Christmas candy! Christmas around here really… Continue reading New year, new me, blah, blah, Brussels sprouts
